SU29BH.ZIP
17 February, 1993 Sukhoi SU-29 by Butch Harrell
A two-place aerobatic airplane based on the Russian-built version currently
flown in competition around the world.
It is featured in an article "Moscow Muscle" by LeRoy Cook in the March
'93 Private Pilot Mag (Pg 38) if you want more details on the real thing.
Specs: Length 23.76 ft, Wingspan 26.91 ft, Aerobatic Wt. 1900 lb.
Engine - Vedenyev M-14P 9-cyl radial, 360 hp.
2-Place cabin, Fixed Main Gear, steerable tail wheel
Propeller - three-blade, 100 in. diameter.
Rate of Climb 3189 fpm, Ground roll 919 ft take off, 2838 ft landing.
I put a ground angle of 12 degrees in, and played with the SIM parms until
I felt it was close to published performance. If you use full throttle on
take off..watch out. At about 75% and a little up trim, the tail comes up
around 40 kts, and lift-off at around 80 kts.
To do rolls comfortably from level flight, use 50 to 75% power, up elev. 4
clicks, full aileron, then center at about 75% through the roll.
I couldn't get realistic high-end cruise speed (237 kt), but it's fun to
fly anyway...
It's easy to over-control on final approach, so set up carefully, and use
engine power to control vertical rate. There are no flaps.
This is my first AAF plane, so feel free to send criticism, suggestions,
etc. I didn't spend much time fixing color bleed-thru and stuff, so when
you get tired of flying, have at it!
I included the files for McKinney Municipal Airport in Texas used for
test flying the model. This also happens to be where I solo'd years ago.
Featured in the .SC1 file are Lake Lavon, Lake Ray Hubbard, and a few
miles to the NW, Lake Texoma, and other misc things.
Thanks to LeRoy Cook, Senior Editor, Private Pilot Magazine for the article.
Enjoy!
